Hawks Back on Track

After a four game loosing streak, the Hawks got back on track and have been winning many of their recent games. One of their recent games was on Sunday December 11. This game was at home against the San Jose Sharks. The game was close until the last 2 minutes. The Sharks led the game the whole way. With 1:30 left on the game clock, the Blackhawks are out in front on a breakaway. They shoot.... and goalie Anti Niemi can't stop it. The game is tied!!!! The Hawks keep the score tied until the end of the 3rd period. The game is going into overtime. Minutes tick by and nothing exciting happens, but then Jonathan Towes and

Patrick Sharp are 2 vs. 1. Towes shoots, stop by Niemi, rebound shot by Sharp. HAWKS WIN!!!

The game was incredibly exciting and definitely intense. It was a great game and was a good game to get the Hawks back on track. Currently, they are in 1st place 40 points and a record with 18-8-4. They have a really good chance of making the playoffs. There are 7 games over winter break and I will be sure to watch every single game and cheer the Hawks on to victory.

Bears First Game with Hanie

With Jay Cutler on the sideline, Caleb Hanie played Quarterback for the Chicago Bears. This was the first game of the 2011 season that Hanie had played in. With all of the pressure on him, Hanie was determined to do well. This didn't happen. Hanie was very upset with his performance and didn't want to talk to anyone, not even Coach Lovie Smith. The only person that could relate to Caleb was Jay Cutler, starting Quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Throughout the whole game, Cutler gave Hanie all of the advice he could but it didn't seem to help. The Bears did loose that game 25-20. Hanie's Stats:

http://lockersmash.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/caleb-hanie.jpg
Pass Attempts: 36
Completions: 18
Total Yards: 254
Touchdown Passes: 2
Interceptions: 3

Although these stats aren't horrible, they did cost the Bears the game. It might have been nerves, or it might be lack of skill, but whatever the case, Caleb Hanie needs to step it up in order for the bears to win. Hopefully it was just nerves and Hanie will do better in his next game. The Bears next game is Sunday December 4th vs. The Kansas City Chiefs. Caleb is expected to be with the bears for at least 6-8 weeks. Jay Cutler recently had surgery for a broken thumb and is doubtful that he will return before the end of the regular season. He may be able to play in some of the post-season games.

NBA Lockout Over

In a previous post, I mentioned the troubles that the NBA players, coaches and owners had to go through. Over Thanksgiving weekend, the board reached a tentative agreement on players contracts. The first three games of the season will be played on Christmas Day (December 25). The three games will be:  Miami Heat vs. Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks, and Chicago Bulls vs. Los Angeles Lakers. These will all be very exciting games because these 6 teams are talented and competative.

Since the lockout took so long, the season will have to be shortened and there will be less games played. I think that it is critical for teams to start out strong if they want to make it into the playoffs. Personally, I didnt think that there would even be a basketball season. Because baksetball is my favorite sport, it would have stunk if there was no basketball on T.V. during the winter season. Good think I don't have to worry about that :)

Bears Make a Strong Attack

The Chicago Bears have won their last 5 games against the Vikings, the Buccaneers, the Eagles, the Lions, and the Chargers. These wins come from the contibutions of the Offensive Lines, the Defensive Lines, and the Special Teams. Although they haven't lost in 5 games, they are still in second place behind the undefeated Green Bay Packers. Jay Cutler, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, has been on his game and completing many of his passes. In the past game on Sunday (November 20) the bears beat the Chargers 31-20 against the San Diego Chargers.

Another player making a lot of contributions is Devin Hester. Hester is a Wide Reciever as well as an amazing punt returner. He holds the record for the most number of Touchdowns off of Punt Returns. Hester is also a big contributor to the offensive line. As a wide reciever, it is his responsibility to make catches and run it towards the endzone. Devin Hester is my favorite player, not for his football playing ability, but because of his jersey number. Devin Hester is #23 and my birthday is August 23, therefore we both have the number 23 in common :)

In my blog post 2 weeks ago, I commented on how well the Blackhawks were doing. After that post, they started going downhill. Hopefully I don't jinx the Bear's chances.

Tebow Jersey Stir Up

Tim Tebow, the Denver Brocos' quarterback, is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. When Tebow is not on the Football field, he is a loyal Catholic. He is devoted to his religion and constantly refers to Jesus. At the past game on Sunday (11/13), many fans in the stands wore Tebow's number 15 jersey. Instead of displaying his name above the number, it was replaced with the name "JESUS". In the past two days it has been a constant debate between players, fans, and coaches. Some people believe that it is over the top and the jersey shouldn't have been made in the first place. They believe that it was a problem because it was comparing Tim Tebow to the Mesiah and that the rest of his teammates were his "disciples". In addition, Tebow wore the Darwin Fish on his chest. All of this commotion started because of one jersey created by many fans. In my opion, I don't see this as a problem and I don't find it offensive.  I believe that fans should be able to wear whatever they want and can think about players in their own way. If they think of Tebow as "Jesus", or some incredible Son of God, that is their opinion. To take a poll on what you think, click here.

Hawks Off to a Great Start

With a record of 8-2-3, the Chiacgo Blackhawks are the #1 team in the Western Conference. With the combination of great offensive lines and awesome goalies, the Hawks have gone 6-1-3 in the last 10 games. The games have been exciting, action packed nail bitters, 3 of which went into overtime and shootouts. The top two players on the Blackhaws, Patrick Kane (#88) with 15 points and Marian Hossa (#81) with 13 points have been leading the Hawks in goals and assists. With the season under way, the Hawks have a chance to make the playoffs (if they continue to play the way they have). The Blackhawks faceoff against the Vancouver Canucks at 6:00 Central Time. It is sure to be an exciting one.

NBA Lockout

The NBA lockout has been a controversial topic. Coaches and Players have been working out salary deals and contracts for the next few upcoming seasons. The board has been meeting almost every day in order to start the season on time. Many preseason games have already been canceled because the deals cannot be worked out. Although the negotiation for players is necessary, I believe that it has gone on longer that it needs to be. I am also afraid that some of the regular season games will be delayed because of the lockout. The lockout has been going on for over 2 months and hopefully, the players, coaches, and board are close to finding an agreement. As soon as the lockout is over, the games will begin.
